The UCLouvain will welcome on 14th April, Professor John Morijn for a discussion on: “Democracy as a Union Value and Union Law Concept“.

Given the current context, this question is more relevant than ever: What democratic standards does the European Union require from its member states? It is conventional that any terminology mentioned and used in EU law has EU specific meaning. So what does democracy, as term of art of EU law and policy, mean?

John Morijn is one of the most qualified experts on this topic, serving as Chair in law and politics in international relations at the University of Groningen, Fellow at Princeton University, and Henrik Enderlein Fellow at the Hertie School.

This seminar is a joint venture between the Institut d’études européennes – Université Saint-Louis – Bruxelles and CIRC – Centre interdisciplinaire de recherches en droit constitutionnel et administratif, hosted at UCLouvain Saint-Louis Bruxelles as part of the Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence EUNMUTE.

To enrich the discussion with an interdisciplinary perspective, the talk will be debated by Professors Antoine Bailleux and Luca Tomini.

🗓 April 14 | 12:30 – 14:00 CEST
